HT: Man Utd 1 – 2 Man City

Kevin De Bruyne and kelechi Iheanacho scored before Ibrahimovic pulled one back…the Swede say his effort cleared off the line in the ;ast kick of the first half…
City have been the better team so far

45+ Stopped on the LINE!!! Ibrahimovic’s tap in is blocked on the line after Lingard steals the ball from Claudio Bravo and feeds the Swede….that should have been 2 – 2

45+ CHANCE! City’s passing game sees them lose possession in a dangerous area for the first time, allowing Ibrahimovic to feed Rooney. The captain sends a cross deep to the back post for the Swede, but he heads his effort straight at Bravo

Before that, Eric Baily was given a yellow card

43′ GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! Ibrahimovic scores into an empty net after Claudio Bravo fumbles a freekick by Rooney into the box

38′ Kevin De Bruyn had hit the upright with a left footed curling shot and Iheanacho scores into an empty net

36′ GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! Iheanacho scores…what is happening…its Man Utd 0 – 2 Man City

35′ City with some nice touches, Sterling’s cross is blocked by De Gea

32′ Neat play by City on the edge of the United box with Silva, Iheanacho and De Bruyne all involved before it reaches Sterling on the right. He opens up space for a strike on his left foot, but Bailly makes the block to deny him

31′ Nolito and Marouane Fellaini have a frank exchange of views after the former accuses the latter of dragging out of his shirt as he attempted to sprint into the United penalty area

30′ Mkhitaryan is flagged for offside as he chases a ball through the centre. He doesn’t hear the whistle, goes down under a challenge from Claudio Bravo and appeals for a penalty, but none is forthcoming

27′ Man City have pretty much dominated so far

24′ Rooney plays the ball down the right wing for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to chase. He gets on it and attempts to send in a cross for the incoming Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the ball’s put out for a corner which Nolito hacks clear

22′ CONFRONTATION!!! Wayne Rooney and Guardiola in a scuffle for a ball which went out for throw in…the two actually make up

20′ City patiently build from the left with Nolito and Kolarov. The left-back whips a cross with pace to the back post, but Sterling cannot twist to get a header on target

17′ COUNTER!!! Pogba steals the ball from John Stones and feeds Zlatan but the Swede is robbed and its a corner…

Corner is cleared and danger is snuffed

15′ GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!! De Bruyne scores…Daley Blind misreads a long ball headed down by Iheanacho and the Belgian has only De Gea to beat which he does easily

12′ Manchester City continue to dominate, but Manchester United embark on another counter-attack that is snuffed out when Mkhitaryan runs down a blind alley. It’s been reasonably entertaining so far

10′ Man City has started playing impressively now…De Bruyne’s incisive pass to Iheanacho is snuffed out by Bailly and Valencia with the latter clearing

9′ Frekick…Eric Bailly fouls De Bruyne on the edge of the box but his the set piece is well over

8′ WHAT A SHOT!!! Pogba definately has his shooting boots on. ROoney makes run through the middle and finds Mkhitaryan on the right who immdiately lays for Pogba who plays a one time shot.

The ball is a lob and Bravo is well beaten but its just over

6′ The first corner of the afternoon is poor as Silva’s ball fails to beat the first man, allowing the home side to clear

5′ Otamendi sends a neat pass throught the United defence for the run of De Bruyne. The Belgian puts a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but neither Iheanacho or Sterling can convert in the penalty area

4′ Wayne Rooney picks up the ball on the edge of the City penalty area and plays it wide to Antonio Valencia on the right touchline. With four Man Utd players waiting in the penalty area, he fails to send the ball into them

2′ Manchester United has started the game better with Paul Pogba in particular running the game in midfield with neat passes and touches

Below is the Preview of the Manchester United vs Manchester City derby clash…

It is a big day in English football and after so much hype, the Manchester derby is set to go underway.

A Jose Mourinho-managed Manchester United will face a very formidable ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City who are tutored by former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcus Rashford are expected to light-up the encounter, although the youngsters only cost the Manchester clubs a meagre amount, the eventual outcome of today’s tie could be decided between them if the big names fail to deliver.

Iheanacho whose cannon for the Super Eagles of Nigeria sank Tanzania last Saturday, could be given a starting role following Sergio Augero’s absence owing to suspension.

What the managers are saying

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on the absence of City forward Sergio Aguero: “It’s more difficult (for us). It looks a little bit of a contradiction, but without Aguero it is more difficult.

Mourinho vs Guardiola

“When Aguero is available, we know that Aguero plays. We know their formation, we know their dynamics and nobody has doubts.

“They have so many options that for us in the preparation of the game, we have to go step by step, we have to go situation after situation because we try to reduce the unpredictability of the game, you know?”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: “Let me live this derby and after I can tell you how it can compare with Spain and Munich. I think that for the media on both sides, in Spain and here, it’s similar.

“I saw the four official games United have played and in every game they’ve played better than in the one before. Like us.

“Set pieces with tall guys it’s impossible to control that, they’re taller than us. They’re a top team, like Manchester United always is.”

Head-to-head

Of the 171 games played between the two sides, United have won 71, with 51 draws; City have only managed 49 wins.
