Celine Dion opens on her life after her husband's death

Four months after Award-Winning Singer Céline Dion lost her husband and manager René Angélil to throat cancer at the age of 73, the singer bares her heart in People Magazine’s Latest Issue.

The couple first met when Dion was just a 12 year old girl in Montreal and went on to spend 21 years of marriage together giving birth to three children, René-Charles, 15, and 6-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.

Before his death, Angélil guided Dion’s career as her manager and mentor and battled three bouts of cancer, causing his wife to put her career on hold multiple times to care for her husband’s health issues.

She shares with People Magazine on how life has been for her since she” lost the love of her life”. Here’s an excerpt of her story:

On staying Strong for her Kids
“I really, really want to prove to my kids their mother is strong.” Work has become the singer’s haven and she’ll be taking the stage at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards to receive the Icon award and perform a cover of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On,” a song title that had a strong significance in the couple’s romance and work relationship.

On Losing the Love of Her Life
“René always insisted the show must go on. You know what, I’m 48 years old and I lost the love of my life. I miss him a lot from when he was great but not when he was suffering. I cannot be selfish. You have to let people go. I feel at peace.”

On Caring for Her Late Husband
“It’s been a long, long journey, We were living in hope, knowing that there’s no hope.”
