Midnight fire razes another market in Kano

Another mid-night fire outbreak on Thursday gutted Gwarzo market in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

An eye witness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Friday that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. The witness said the fire destroyed the entire furniture section of the market before it was put out by men of the fire service in the area. When contacted, the Director of the state’s Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan, confirmed the incident.

He said the fire started around 1.45 a.m. and destroyed 30 shops in the furniture section of the market.

“We got the report of the incident around 1.45 a.m. and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 3.25 a.m. today (Friday).

“Our preliminary investigation indicated that the fire spread to the shops and other places when some traders attempted to burn sawdust.” He, however, warned people to take precautionary measures while using fire.
