Nigerian man involved in Brussels attack
Indications emerged yesterday that a Nigerian of Yoruba extraction is among the victims of last week’s terrorist attacks in Brussels, Belgium.
Moyo Adeoba, 62, whose name appeared alongside 11 others on BBC’s list of missing people in the attacks , was said to have been missing since the incident.
The attacks left about 35 dead and injured more than 300.
Others on the list of missing people are Raghavendra Ganeshan, an IT worker from India; Gilles Laurent; Polish woman Janina Panasewicz and Belgian woman Aline Bastin, both reported missing after the metro blast; Croatian Dinko Malnar, who was transiting between Montreal and Zagreb, as well as Berit Viktorsson, Johanna Atlegrim, Yves Cibuabua, Tito Garcia Ramone, and a a certain Gevaert.
Adeoba’s name started trending soon after the list was posted, following the attention drawn to it by Mrs Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who said she was in Brussels and offered her assistance.
Shortly after Mrs Abiola-Costello, daughter of the winner of the June 1993 presidential election, Moshood Abiola pleaded with her social media contacts to share the information until it reaches Adeoba’s family, she returned to her Facebook page to announce that the man’s sister has contacted her and he was not a student as she had thought.
“Friends, thank you for sharing my message until it reached Mr. Moyo Adeoba’s family. I just got a call from his sister. He was not a student as I had surmised from his FB profile. According to his sister, he was approximately 62 years old. The family has not heard from him since the attack but are hoping that perhaps he is among the injured.
However, his name is listed among those that died. I will be going to the Embassy today to make sure the officials are aware of him and are working with the Belgian authorities to secure his body. I will keep you posted”
Three hours later, Mrs Abiola-Costello posted another comment on her page stating that Adeoba was alive, well, and has contacted his family.
“It seems Mr. Moyo Adeoba is alive and well! Some of his family have spoken to him and I notice that his name is not on the updated list of victims online. I am trying to touch base with him directly. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and keep him in our prayers. More soon,” she said.
